Biodiversity Finance Manager

About the role

The Biodiversity Finance Manager will support UNDP’s Global Policy Network in designing and implementing finance solutions that close biodiversity funding gaps. The role contributes to the Nature, Climate Change, Energy, and Waste Hub’s mission to integrate nature‑based solutions into sustainable development strategies.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and coordinate national Biodiversity Finance Plans in collaboration with government and partner stakeholders.
• Identify, assess and recommend innovative financing mechanisms, including blended finance, green bonds, and results‑based payments.
• Provide technical guidance on the application of biodiversity finance tools and the Biodiversity Finance Initiative framework.
• Support policy dialogue and capacity‑building activities to strengthen country‑level finance strategies.
• Monitor and report on the impact of financed biodiversity projects against SDG and Global Biodiversity Framework targets.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in finance, economics, environmental science or related field.
• Proven experience in biodiversity finance, environmental funding mechanisms or sustainable development finance.
• Demonstrated ability to work with multi‑stakeholder groups, including governments, donors and NGOs.
• Strong analytical and report‑writing skills, with experience in policy‑oriented environments.

Required skills

• Knowledge of biodiversity finance tools and mechanisms.
• Experience in developing finance plans or strategies for environmental programmes.
• Ability to conduct financial analysis and risk assessment.
