National Land Cover and GIS Specialist

About the role

The National Land Cover and GIS Specialist will support the TCP/SFW/4008 project – “Enhancing Regional Technical Capacities for Sustainable Land Monitoring and Development” – based in Accra, Ghana. Working under the FAO Representative and the Assistant‑FAOR, the incumbent will provide technical expertise in GIS and remote sensing to strengthen land‑cover and land‑use monitoring across West Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the regional coordination of land‑cover and land‑use activities under the TCP/SFW/4008 project.
• Provide technical support and share knowledge in GIS and remote sensing, following guidance from the international land‑monitoring expert.
• Organise and implement regional project activities, including meetings with regional experts, a regional workshop, and field data collection with the service provider.
• Ensure proper documentation, archiving, and reporting of all technical and project‑related information.
• Support the international consultant in conducting a needs and gap assessment on land‑cover and land‑use by gathering existing datasets and coordinating meetings with national partners.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in GIS and remote sensing applied to land monitoring.
• Ability to coordinate regional activities and collaborate with international experts and national partners.
• Strong documentation and archiving skills for technical and project information.
