Technical Scientific Services Application Engineer

About the role

The Technical Scientific Services Application Engineer is a specialised technical position responsible for administering, supporting, integrating and optimising TSS applications that drive exploration, subsurface, drilling and production activities. The role acts as the technical bridge between end‑users, IT infrastructure teams, vendors and head‑office application environments, ensuring stable and secure operation of critical scientific software.

Key responsibilities

• Provide advanced administration and support for TSS applications across geoscience, drilling and production functions.
• Maintain availability, performance and reliability in line with operational SLAs.
• Coordinate deployments, upgrades, patching and licence management with vendors and HQ teams.
• Support integration with databases, infrastructure platforms and data‑management systems.
• Diagnose and resolve complex incidents, perform root‑cause analysis and implement permanent fixes.
• Document configurations, procedures and ensure audit readiness.
• Guarantee compliance with IT security, data‑protection and governance standards.
• Contribute to testing, validation and acceptance of new releases.
• Provide input for application lifecycle planning, including upgrades and retirements.

Required profile

• Strong ownership of assigned applications throughout their operational lifecycle.
• Ability to lead technical investigations and coordinate multiple stakeholders during incidents.
• Disciplined application of change, release and configuration management controls.
• Experience managing vendor relationships and service agreements.

Required skills

• Technical/scientific application support in oil & gas or similar data‑intensive environments.
• Working knowledge of geoscience, reservoir, drilling or production applications (e.g., subsurface interpretation, modelling, visualisation tools).
• Understanding of application architecture, databases and system integration.
• Experience troubleshooting complex, multi‑layered environments.
• Familiarity with licensing models, vendor support structures and release management processes.
• Collaboration with infrastructure, network and security teams to resolve cross‑domain issues.
