Dewatering Pump Operator – 1 Year Contract

About the role

The Dewatering Pump Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of dewatering pumps, settler dams and associated equipment at the Obuasi mine. The role ensures continuous water removal by following the operating schedule, recording parameters and reporting any abnormalities.

Key responsibilities

• Start, stop and change‑over dewatering pumps according to the approved schedule and supervisor instructions.
• Prime, vent and place pumps into service safely, confirming correct rotation and stable operation.
• Monitor and record suction/discharge pressures, flow, motor current, temperatures and running hours at required intervals.
• Maintain sump, settler dam and dam water levels within required limits.
• Carry out routine first‑line checks such as greasing, oil level checks, gland adjustment and cleaning of the pump station.
• Inspect for leaks, unusual noise, vibration or overheating and report defects promptly.
• Complete pump log‑sheets, shift reports and hand‑over documentation accurately.
• Adhere to permit‑to‑work, isolation, lock‑out/tag‑out and mine safety procedures.

Required profile

• Minimum 2–3 years practical experience operating and monitoring dewatering pumps in a mining or heavy‑industrial environment.
• WASSCE/SSSCE or equivalent secondary qualification, or a Craft/Technician Certificate in a mechanical or plant‑related discipline.
• MINCOM certification and training in permit‑to‑work, LOTO, confined‑space awareness and first aid are highly desirable.
• Strong problem‑solving, decision‑making, communication and teamwork skills.

Required skills
