Engineering Supervisor – Shaft Maintenance

About the role

The Engineering Supervisor – Shaft Maintenance will lead the shaft maintenance team at AngloGold Ashanti’s Obuasi Gold Mine, ensuring safe, compliant and efficient operation of the underground shaft systems. You will coordinate work, train staff and monitor performance to maximise plant availability while adhering to regulatory and company standards.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise cage operators and shaft maintenance technicians, ensuring compliance with LI2182 and Ghanaian regulations.
• Oversee statutory inspections, material transport, slinging and all shaft‑related activities, maintaining safety and environmental standards.
• Review, approve and sign off maintenance plans, detailed designs, testing, commissioning and hand‑over documentation.
• Monitor cost, schedule and quality of shaft refurbishment work, reporting against feasibility study expectations.
• Identify non‑conforming work practices, conduct root‑cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Develop and maintain the Shaft Engineering Management Plan as part of the overall Project Execution Plan.
• Promote a zero‑tolerance HSE culture and lead by example to create a safe working environment.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Maintenance Engineering (or equivalent HND/MET qualifications).
• Minimum 5 years experience supervising shaft maintenance in a mining environment.
• Strong knowledge of statutory shaft inspection requirements and compliance with LI2182.
• Proven ability to manage teams, control quality and deliver projects on time and within budget.
