Senior Winder Engine Driver

About the role

The Senior Winder Engine Driver will lead the team responsible for operating and maintaining the winding engines that service the underground shafts at the Obuasi Gold Mine. This senior position ensures safe, compliant, and efficient shaft operations while supporting the mine’s goal of producing up to 5,000 t/day of ore.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate work schedules, training, and performance monitoring of all winder drivers.
• Ensure all drivers hold a valid winding engine driver’s certificate of competency (LI2182 Reg 450) and meet medical fitness requirements (LI2182 Reg 451).
• Maintain the skills matrix, track compliance with LI2182 regulations (Reg 452‑458), and report any deficiencies.
• Lead safety initiatives, conduct inspections, audits, JHAs, and investigate incidents to prevent recurrence.
• Oversee shaft maintenance data collection, statutory inspections, and environmental compliance in line with the site’s Environmental Management Plan.
• Drive continuous improvement using analysis tools, define clear roles and accountabilities, and communicate policies effectively.

Required profile

• Extensive experience operating winding engines in underground mining environments.
• Proven ability to train and certify personnel under LI2182 regulations.
• Strong leadership skills with a focus on safety, compliance, and operational excellence.
• Ability to analyse process interruptions and implement corrective actions.
