Shaft Mechanical Supervisor (Contract)

About the role

The Shaft Mechanical Supervisor will lead the inspection, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of shaft mechanical infrastructure across surface and underground operations. The role focuses on maximizing equipment reliability, availability and operational efficiency while complying with engineering standards, statutory regulations and mine safety procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise inspection, maintenance, repair and overhaul of shaft mechanical equipment and infrastructure.
• Coordinate preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance activities to ensure safe and reliable shaft operations.
• Lead mechanical troubleshooting, equipment failure analysis and Root Cause Analysis to improve reliability.
• Allocate manpower, tools, equipment and resources to complete work safely and efficiently.
• Monitor equipment condition, identify defects and potential failure points, and initiate timely corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with maintenance schedules, engineering procedures, statutory regulations and company safety standards.
• Prepare and review maintenance reports, inspection records, risk assessments, work permits and shift handover documentation.
• Supervise contractors and maintenance personnel to meet quality and safety requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Mechanical, Mining or Plant Engineering, or equivalent.
• Minimum 5‑8 years of practical experience in shaft mechanical maintenance, including supervisory responsibilities.
• Valid MINCOM Certification, Mine Safety Supervisory Certification, Permit‑to‑Work (PTW) training and Risk Assessment training.
• Additional certifications in Lifting & Hoisting Operations, Lock‑Out/Tag‑Out (LOTO), First Aid, Root Cause Analysis and CMMS/SAP are advantageous.

• Advanced knowledge of shaft mechanical systems and infrastructure maintenance.
• Mechanical fault diagnosis, preventive and corrective maintenance.
• Equipment reliability improvement and maintenance planning.
• Root Cause Analysis (RCA) techniques.
• Experience with Lifting and Hoisting Operations and Lock‑Out/Tag‑Out procedures.
• Proficiency in Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS/SAP).
