Underground Shiftboss

About the role

The Underground Shiftboss will lead quality assurance, control and regulatory compliance for underground ore extraction at the Obuasi Gold Mine. This senior‑level position ensures safe, efficient production while managing risk and adhering to all relevant mining legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and maintain production processes for the mine redevelopment.
• Ensure compliance with Mineral and Mining (Health and Safety and Technical) Regulations 2012, explosives regulations, internal OHS standards and Labour Act requirements.
• Assist in developing the annual production cost‑centre budget and deliver results within approved budget and KPI targets.
• Demonstrate safety leadership and promote a strong safety culture across the production department.
• Develop and mentor the production team to consistently meet budgetary and operational goals.
• Recommend and optimise specialist projects, research initiatives and procedural improvements.
• Report on progress of production initiatives and present solutions to performance challenges.

Required profile

• BSc or Diploma in Mining Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
• Three to five years of operational experience in an underground mining environment, with at least two years in a supervisory role.
• Strong knowledge of relevant mining health, safety and technical regulations.
• Proven ability to manage risk, budgets and performance indicators.
• Demonstrated safety leadership and team development skills.
