Biomedical Engineer

About the role

The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research seeks an innovative Biomedical Engineer to develop pioneering biomedical technology and provide operational support for the Institute’s research objectives. You will collaborate with life scientists, chemists, and medical scientists to translate engineering concepts into practical medical solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Install, calibrate, and maintain biomedical machines, equipment, and related software.
• Design and create biomedical technologies such as artificial internal organs, diagnostic devices, and treatment equipment.
• Evaluate safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of biomedical equipment and software.
• Provide technical support and keep up‑to‑date service histories for all equipment.
• Train clinicians, scientists, and staff on safe and effective use of biomedical devices.
• Research new materials, technologies, and engineering aspects of biological systems.
• Write reports, protocols, and documentation covering maintenance, standards, and repairs.
• Disseminate biomedical engineering knowledge through teaching, writing, or consulting.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in biomedical engineering, biomedical science, or a related field.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license issued by the appropriate authority.
• Minimum two years of experience in biomedical engineering within a research or clinical setting.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to comprehend complex systems, identify problems, and implement effective solutions.
