Climate & Nature Officer – UK High Commission Ghana

About the role

The British High Commission in Ghana is seeking an experienced specialist to lead the UK’s climate and nature objectives under the People and Planet Pillar of the Country Business Plan. You will work closely with Ghanaian government agencies, civil society and private sector partners to promote sustainable, low‑carbon development and integrate climate considerations across UK engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Provide in‑country technical and diplomatic leadership for UK‑managed programmes in forestry, carbon markets and broader nature conservation.
• Coordinate delivery of climate‑related projects to ensure they are targeted, well‑aligned and supportive of Ghana’s climate finance mobilisation.
• Build and maintain senior relationships with the Environmental Protection Agency, Forestry Commission, Ministries of Lands and Natural Resources, and the Minister’s office for climate change and sustainability.
• Support high‑level UK representation in international climate dialogues such as COP and other commitments.
• Collaborate with the BHC’s infrastructure advisor to align climate initiatives with broader development objectives.

Required profile

• Proven experience in climate diplomacy, environmental policy or related fields.
• Demonstrated ability to work with senior government officials and multi‑stakeholder groups.
• Strong understanding of forestry, carbon markets and biodiversity protection.
• Excellent communication and networking skills.
