Database Administrator

About the role

The Database Administrator will manage Telecel Ghana’s Oracle, MS SQL and overall database platforms. The role ensures smooth testing, deployment and Level 1‑3 technical support for the entire database estate, supporting day‑to‑day business operations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise and decision‑making for server, datacentre and DB environment issues.
• Consult on requirements definition, design, development and integration of complex database projects.
• Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT database initiatives.
• Manage project deployment, monitoring, maintenance, upgrades and support of all database systems.
• Investigate and resolve escalated database issues, ensuring adequate resources are allocated.
• Review tests, integrations and solutions produced by less experienced personnel for accuracy.
• Communicate and enforce standards for distributed database environments.
• Oversee periodic maintenance and upgrades of DB environments.
• Collaborate with key vendors to align technical roadmaps with long‑range planning.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS or related field (preferred).
• Minimum 3 years of database administration experience, including at least 2 years in a technical management capacity.
• 2‑3 years experience supporting MS SQL Server and Oracle databases.
• 2‑3 years experience with database clustering and SMART technology.
• Strong overall understanding of IT systems and technologies.
