Director of Internal Audit

About the role

The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) is seeking a senior professional to lead its Internal Audit Directorate. Reporting to the Audit Committee, the Director will ensure compliance with the Internal Audit Agency Act and the Public Financial Management Act while safeguarding the university’s financial integrity.

Key responsibilities

• Head the Internal Audit Directorate and oversee all audit activities across the university.
• Plan, execute and report periodic internal audits in line with statutory standards and agency procedures.
• Provide audit findings and recommendations to the Audit Committee and senior management.
• Develop and maintain audit policies, risk‑assessment frameworks, and internal control standards.
• Mentor and manage audit staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Professional qualification and a relevant postgraduate degree.
• Membership in a recognized accounting or finance body (e.g., ICA, ACCA, CIMA, CIJA, CIA).
• Minimum 3 years as Principal/Deputy/Internal Auditor in a university or equivalent institution, or 15 years post‑qualification experience in a reputable audit/accounting firm, industry, commerce, or public service.
• Dynamic, self‑motivated, team‑player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Sound judgment, high initiative, and proven managerial and organisational abilities.
• Entrepreneurial drive, business orientation, and digital literacy.

Required skills

• Internal audit methodologies and standards.
• Risk assessment and internal control evaluation.
• Knowledge of Ghanaian audit legislation (Internal Audit Agency Act, Public Financial Management Act).
