Environmental Officer – Mining Site

About the role

The Officer, Environmental is accountable for implementing the site environmental monitoring programme and procedures to maintain the legal and social licence to operate at the mine. The role supports environmental management across water, chemicals, waste, air and soil quality, biodiversity, rehabilitation and land management.

Key responsibilities

• Implement environmental monitoring programmes as directed by senior management.
• Conduct inspections of mining, processing and waste disposal activities to ensure compliance with legislation and company standards.
• Sample water, dust, soils and other media and report results professionally.
• Assist with ISO 14001 system audits, procedure updates and corrective actions.
• Manage incident response, reporting, clean‑up and rehabilitation activities.
• Provide environmental inductions, awareness training and education programmes for employees, visitors and contractors.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Environmental Management or a related natural science discipline.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in environmental management within a mining environment, including waste, water and rehabilitation practices.
• Valid driver’s licence.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of ISO 14001 requirements.
• Proficiency with Geographic Information System (GIS) software.
• Advanced computer literacy.
