Faculty Assistant – Information Technology (Networking & Cybersecurity)

About the role

Academic City University is urgently recruiting a Faculty Assistant (Information Technology) with a strong background in Networking and Cybersecurity. The post supports academic delivery, laboratory operations and practical learning in the IT and Computer Science programmes, and keeps networking labs, cybersecurity infrastructure and hands-on technical support running smoothly. It is a full-time position based in Accra, Ghana, reporting to the Head of Department / IT & Laboratory Coordinator.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical and academic support for networking and cybersecurity courses.
• Assist lecturers during laboratory sessions, practical demonstrations and workshops.
• Set up, configure and maintain networking equipment, servers and lab environments.
• Support cybersecurity labs, simulations and practical exercises.
• Help manage IT infrastructure, including networks, firewalls and access controls.
• Support students with practical assignments, projects and troubleshooting.
• Maintain inventory and ensure proper use of IT and networking equipment.
• Provide basic IT support for departmental systems and learning platforms.
• Assist with documentation, reporting and lab safety compliance.
• Take part in departmental activities and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree (BSc) in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Information Technology Infrastructure or a related field.
• Desirable: hands-on experience with network administration or cybersecurity tools, familiarity with Linux/Windows server environments, professional certifications such as CCNA, Security+ or CEH, and previous experience in an academic or training environment.

Required skills

• Knowledge of computer networks, network configuration and troubleshooting.
• Basic to intermediate understanding of cybersecurity principles (network security, access control, threat management).
• Familiarity with networking devices such as routers, switches and firewalls.
• Strong problem-solving and technical support skills, good communication, and ability to work independently and in a team.
