Fuel Champion

About the role

The Fuel Champion will oversee all fuel (diesel) usage within the Mining Department, ensuring efficient consumption and accurate reporting. This role involves analysing automated fuel reports, recommending improvements, and supporting policy implementation to reduce excess fuel use.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the Liquid Automation System (LAS) fuel management system, ensuring it is calibrated and operating correctly.
• Compare LAS reports with planner data, investigate abnormalities, and coordinate corrective actions.
• Liaise with planners and maintenance teams to perform cylinder cut‑out and injector solenoid tests, replacing faulty components to maximise efficiency.
• Conduct monthly reconciliation of fuel supplied by vendors against fuel used by the mining department.
• Generate weekly and monthly fuel efficiency reports (fuel burn rate) for mobile and fixed assets and present them to key stakeholders.
• Assist in developing and implementing policies aimed at reducing overall fuel consumption.
• Train operators, pump attendants, and other end‑users on proper use of the LAS system.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum three years of experience working with hydrocarbons.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and SAP software.
• Strong data analysis and report writing abilities.
• Knowledge of LAS fuel management system (advantageous).
• Inspection Engineer certificate of competency and/or Drill and Blast certificate.
• Valid driver’s licence and ability to operate a light vehicle.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
