Guidance & Counselling Officer

About the role

The Guidance & Counselling Officer will report to the Dean of Students and lead the university's guidance and counselling department. The role involves delivering professional counselling services, organising development workshops, and supporting students and staff in managing academic and personal challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Provide individual and group counselling to students and staff to alleviate academic and social stress.
• Organise training workshops and seminars on guidance, counselling, and life‑planning skills.
• Develop and implement programmes that address life challenges faced by students in the academic environment.
• Train peer educators and peer mediators within the institution.
• Ensure clients requiring special attention receive appropriate support from qualified authorities or experts.
• Design structured lessons to help students achieve desired competencies in learning and research.

Required profile

• Research Master’s degree in a relevant field.
• Minimum of 8 years post‑qualification experience, or at least 6 years as an Assistant Guidance & Counselling Officer in a tertiary institution.
• Evidence of industry experience and membership in a recognised professional body is an advantage.
• Ability to produce a detailed work‑output write‑up for external assessment.
