HSE Manager

About the role

The HSE Manager leads all Environment, Health and Safety initiatives at Barry Callebaut’s manufacturing site in Tema, Ghana. Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will ensure regulatory compliance, foster a strong safety culture and drive continuous improvement across operations.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain full compliance with local, national and international EHS regulations and keep permits, licenses and documentation up to date.
• Lead site audits, inspections and regulatory reporting, and conduct regular risk assessments and hazard analyses.
• Investigate incidents, near‑misses and unsafe conditions, implementing corrective and preventive actions.
• Monitor safety performance metrics such as TRIR and LTIR and report results.
• Oversee waste management, emissions control, hazardous material handling and support sustainability initiatives.
• Develop and deliver EHS training for employees, contractors and visitors, and promote safety campaigns.
• Collaborate with production, maintenance and engineering teams to embed EHS into daily operations and drive ergonomics and process safety improvements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, occupational health & safety, engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Strong knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and local regulatory frameworks.
• Proven ability to conduct risk assessments, incident investigations and audit management.
• Excellent leadership, communication and influencing skills.
