HSE Manager – Manufacturing Site

About the role

The HSE Manager leads all Environment, Health and Safety initiatives at Barry Callebaut’s manufacturing site in Tema, Ghana. Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will ensure regulatory compliance, foster a proactive safety culture and support operational excellence through risk‑based management and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain full compliance with local, national and international EHS regulations; manage permits, licences and audit reporting.
• Conduct regular risk assessments, hazard analyses and lead incident, near‑miss investigations with corrective and preventive actions.
• Oversee waste management, emissions control, hazardous material handling and support sustainability programmes.
• Develop and deliver EHS training for employees, contractors and visitors; run safety campaigns and toolbox talks.
• Collaborate with production, maintenance and engineering to embed EHS into daily operations and drive ergonomics, machine and process safety improvements.
• Lead EHS projects aligned with site goals and monitor safety performance metrics such as TRIR and LTIR.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Strong knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and local regulatory frameworks.
• Proven experience in risk assessment, incident investigation, root‑cause analysis and audit management.
• Demonstrated leadership, analytical mindset and ability to influence cross‑functional teams.
