In‑house Legal Counsel

About the role

expressPay Ghana Limited is seeking a commercially‑minded, common‑law trained lawyer to serve as the legal backbone of its multi‑jurisdictional fintech group. The In‑house Legal Counsel will work closely with the executive team, compliance, and commercial functions across Africa, Europe, North America and the UAE.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including bank partnerships, mobile money schemes, payment and remittance arrangements, and technology vendor contracts.
• Maintain an organised tracker of all group agreements, renewals and key obligations.
• Prepare and manage board and shareholder resolutions, support entity incorporations, restructurings and maintain corporate records.
• Assist regulatory teams with licence applications, renewals, filings and regulator engagements across active and target jurisdictions.
• Provide pragmatic legal advice, support dispute resolution, improve internal policies and manage external counsel.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer in a common‑law jurisdiction (Ghana, UK or similar) with a current practising qualification.
• Minimum 7 years post‑qualification experience, preferably in fintech, payments or regulated financial services.
• Demonstrable experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements and strong corporate governance knowledge.
• Ability to manage legal work across multiple jurisdictions and coordinate external counsel.
• Highly organised with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
