Lecturer in Computer Science (Software Development Background)

About the role

Academic City University is appointing a Lecturer in Computer Science with a strong software development background to support immediate teaching needs and contribute to programme delivery, student mentorship and academic development. The role reports to the Head of Department in the Computational Sciences / Computer Science department and is an urgent, full-time hire open until the position is filled.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Computer Science and Software Development, such as Programming, Software Engineering, Web and Mobile Application Development, Databases and Algorithms
• Prepare course materials, lesson plans, assessments and examinations in line with University standards
• Supervise student projects, capstone work and research activities
• Use practical, hands-on teaching approaches with modern programming tools and frameworks
• Support curriculum delivery, take part in course reviews, departmental meetings, academic committees and quality assurance activities
• Provide academic advising and mentorship to students
• Engage in research, publications and conferences where applicable, and stay current with developments in computer science and software engineering

Required profile

• MSc or MPhil in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a closely related field; or PhD in a related discipline
• Desirable: previous university-level teaching experience, experience designing lab-based or project-oriented courses, and familiarity with modern development tools and version control systems
• Desirable: interest in research or applied computing areas related to systems or programming languages

Required skills

• Strong software development skills and practical programming experience
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g. Java, Python, C/C++, JavaScript)
• Experience with software development tools, frameworks and version control systems
• Ability to teach effectively and engage students in applied learning
• Strong communication, teamwork and time-management skills
