Mechanical Technician – Shaft Maintenance

About the role

The Shaft Maintenance Technician is responsible for executing statutory inspections of shafts, transporting and slinging materials, and performing all other shaft‑related tasks in compliance with LI2182. The role supports safe, sustainable and cost‑effective operation of the underground mine.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out statutory shaft inspections and ensure compliance with LI2182.
• Transport and sling materials, and perform daily pre‑start and shift handover checks.
• Report anomalies, generate work requests in SAP and log equipment performance.
• Support the Senior Winder Driver and Shaft Supervisor with performance reporting and condition monitoring.
• Identify continuous improvement actions and potential cost‑reduction initiatives.

Required profile

• Completed mechanical apprenticeship (e.g., City & Guilds) and Certificate of competency issued by the Chief Inspector of Mines.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience as a mechanical tradesperson in underground mining.
• Working knowledge of LI2182 and experience with shaft signalling.
• Strong analytical and project management skills.
