Mortuary Technician

About the role

The Mortuary Technician will support the Bank Hospital mortuary operations, handling bodies, assisting with post‑mortem examinations, and providing compassionate liaison with relatives of the deceased.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain mortuary cleanliness, safety and equipment efficiency.
• Receive, store and release bodies in proper conditions.
• Prepare bodies for post‑mortem examinations and restore them after autopsy.
• Assist with organ removal for research, transplants or donations.
• Label and handle specimens for histology, photography or teaching.
• Provide sympathetic support and escort to relatives.
• Record keeping, inter‑departmental liaison and coordination with funeral parlour representatives.
• Comply with health‑and‑safety regulations and high‑risk post‑mortem protocols.
• Perform specialised techniques such as removal of temporal bones, brain and spinal cord.
• Maintain consumables stock and document control system.
• Investigate incidents, respond to enquiries and assist with training junior staff.

Required profile

• Diploma in Anatomical Pathology or equivalent, with membership of a professional body.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a mortuary, preferably in a private hospital.
• Strong verbal and written communication in English.
• Computer literate and able to handle bodies safely and efficiently.
• Flexible approach to working hours and ability to plan workload.
