Project Director – Water & Sanitation (WASH‑UP)

About the role

Global Communities‑Ghana is seeking a senior Project Director to lead a USAID‑funded urban water and sanitation programme. The role will drive equitable access to safe water and basic sanitation for poor urban communities, while reducing water‑related diseases and strengthening local governance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership, management and reporting for the WASH partnership with USAID.
• Serve as the lead technical expert on water and sanitation infrastructure development, covering design, specifications, construction/rehabilitation, testing, operation and maintenance.
• Plan and implement project components including safe water access, sanitation, community governance, hygiene promotion and water‑related business development.
• Establish and maintain relationships with USAID, government agencies, private‑sector partners and community organisations.
• Review and approve documentation from consultants and contractors for all project aspects.
• Set up and supervise a Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) system, overseeing field implementation.
• Identify and engage key partners throughout design and implementation phases.
• Manage partner branding requirements and support effective stakeholder engagement.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience leading water and sanitation projects in low‑income urban settings.
• Strong background working with USAID or similar donor programmes.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and complex stakeholder networks.
• Excellent communication and reporting skills.
