Safety Officer (Manufacturing Industry)

About the role

We are seeking a proactive Safety Officer to join our detergent production plant. You will be responsible for maintaining a safe working environment, ensuring compliance with health, safety and environmental (HSE) regulations, and fostering a strong safety culture across the facility.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct regular safety inspections of the plant and identify potential hazards.
• Ensure compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and applicable Ghanaian HSE regulations.
• Monitor proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and enforce safety requirements for employees and contractors.
• Perform risk assessments and implement appropriate control measures.
• Manage safety procedures for chemicals, machinery, electrical systems and other hazardous operations.
• Organise safety training, toolbox talks and emergency drills.
• Investigate accidents, incidents and near‑misses, and recommend corrective actions.
• Monitor fire safety equipment, emergency exits, first‑aid facilities and response procedures.
• Maintain safety records, inspection reports, incident reports and other HSE documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or HND in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering or a related field.
• 2–3 years of HSE/Safety experience, preferably in a manufacturing or chemical processing environment.
• Familiarity with Ghanaian occupational health and safety legislation.
• Relevant HSE certification such as IOSH, NEBOSH or equivalent is an advantage.
• Strong communication, problem‑solving and reporting abilities.
• Ability to work independently, enforce safety rules and work shifts when required.
