Shaft Mechanical Supervisor – 1-Year Contract

About the role
The Shaft Mechanical Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the inspection, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of all shaft mechanical infrastructure and equipment across both surface and underground operations. The role ensures high equipment reliability, availability and operational efficiency while complying with engineering standards, statutory regulations and mine safety procedures.
Key responsibilities
- Supervise inspection, maintenance, repair and overhaul of shaft mechanical equipment, including steelwork, guides, skips, cages and loading arrangements.
- Coordinate preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance activities to minimise downtime and ensure safe shaft operations.
- Lead mechanical troubleshooting, equipment failure analysis and Root Cause Analysis to improve reliability.
- Allocate manpower, tools and resources, monitor equipment condition and identify potential failure points.
- Manage planned shutdowns and emergency breakdown repairs, ensuring compliance with maintenance schedules, engineering procedures and Permit‑to‑Work requirements.
- Supervise contractors and maintenance personnel, ensuring work meets quality and safety standards.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s Degree/HND in Mechanical, Mining or Plant Engineering or equivalent, with at least 5 years of supervisory experience.
- Technician Part III Certificate (Mechanical) and a minimum of 5 years of practical shaft mechanical maintenance experience.
- Valid MINCOM, Mine Safety Supervisory and Permit‑to‑Work certifications; additional certifications in Lifting & Hoisting, LOTO, First Aid, RCA and CMMS are advantageous.
- Proven experience in preventive maintenance, shutdown planning, equipment inspections, contractor supervision and statutory mine safety compliance.
Required skills
- Advanced knowledge of shaft mechanical systems and infrastructure maintenance.
- Mechanical fault diagnosis, preventive and corrective maintenance techniques.
- Equipment reliability improvement, maintenance planning and Root Cause Analysis.
- Lifting and hoisting operations, Lock‑Out/Tag‑Out (LOTO) procedures.
- Use of Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS/SAP).
