Staff Back-End Engineer – Remote (Europe/Africa)

About the role

OpenFn is looking for a Staff Back‑End Engineer to join its Connections squad. The role is fully remote (Europe/Africa time zones) and focuses on building the core backend capabilities that enable governments and NGOs to connect their systems securely and at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and ship production‑ready features that automate system integrations and workflow execution.
• Define and implement core capabilities such as system registration, credential governance and high‑performance workers.
• Shape the overall backend architecture, setting module boundaries, service interfaces and naming conventions.
• Establish consistent engineering patterns, conduct code reviews and produce documentation.
• Translate security findings into architectural improvements and enforce strong trust boundaries.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience building and operating backend services for customer‑facing products.
• Strong track record of delivering end‑to‑end features in a remote, collaborative environment.
• Ability to influence architectural direction without people‑management responsibilities.
