Technical Officer (Vector Control)

About the role

The Technical Officer (Vector Control) will support the National Malaria Elimination Strategic Plan by providing technical input, supervision and analysis for vector control interventions across Ghana. Working under the Medical Entomologist, the role involves planning, monitoring and reporting on insecticide resistance and entomological activities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical input for ITN distribution, IRS, and larval source management.
• Support design and review of vector control strategies aligned with NMESP.
• Coordinate and monitor insecticide resistance surveillance and entomological monitoring, reporting findings to the Medical Entomologist.
• Offer technical guidance and supervision to regional and district vector control teams.
• Analyse entomological and programmatic data to inform decision‑making.
• Develop technical guidelines, training materials and supportive supervision tools.
• Prepare technical reports, work plans and donor reports for review.
• Represent NMEP at technical meetings, workshops and conferences.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, Entomology, Environmental Science, Public Health or related field (Master’s degree advantageous).
• Minimum 3 years experience in vector control, entomology or malaria/vector‑borne disease programmes.
• Strong knowledge of malaria vector control interventions and resistance management.
• Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
• Ability to work independently, travel to regions and districts and supervise field activities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with data analysis software such as Excel, SPSS and R.
