Toolsroom Technician – Mining Operations

About the role

Provide efficient tools management service for the drill and shovel teams at Newmont’s Ahafo North mine, ensuring safe operation of toolroom equipment and proper waste handling.

Key responsibilities

• Issue tools and portable hand machines daily and manage the tool store.
• Ensure tools are returned, clean, safe and in acceptable condition; replenish consumables as needed.
• Maintain and repair oil dispensing systems, air regulators, lubricators, hose reels, pumps and IBCs; empty waste oil containers.
• Keep the shop, yard and workshop floor clean, hazard‑free and organized.
• Conduct periodic accountability of tools, audit safety colour codes and tool boxes, and monitor attrition rates.
• Inspect and maintain oil‑water separators, emergency eye‑wash stations and related safety equipment.
• Prepare monthly reports on damaged, broken or missing tools.

Required profile

• National vocational Trade Certificate or degree in a relevant field.
• Minimum of 3 years experience in a mining environment.
• Knowledge of maintenance principles, work‑management processes, planning and scheduling.
• Familiarity with ISO procedures relevant to the department.
• Analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a safety‑conscious attitude.

Required skills

• Ability to identify and manage a wide range of tools and equipment.
• Computer literacy for manual and electronic record‑keeping.
• Hands‑on experience with presses, surface grinders and power hand tools.
• Maintenance of oil dispensing systems, air regulators, lubricators, hose reels, pumps and IBCs.
• Knowledge of oil‑water separators and emergency eye‑wash equipment.
