University Librarian (Head of Library)

About the role

The University Librarian leads the Koforidua Technical University Library, ensuring that students and faculty have access to up‑to‑date information resources that support teaching, learning and research. Reporting to the Vice‑Chancellor, the role combines strategic planning, resource management and staff leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a comprehensive collection of print and digital resources aligned with the university’s academic programmes.
• Oversee day‑to‑day library operations, budgeting, acquisitions and licensing.
• Implement and manage library and records‑management software to provide seamless physical and virtual access.
• Lead, motivate and supervise library staff, fostering a culture of service excellence.
• Ensure equitable access to information services for all users, including remote and online platforms.
• Collaborate with academic departments to identify resource needs and support research initiatives.

Required profile

• Post‑graduate degree in Library or Information Science; a PhD is an advantage.
• Minimum six years experience as Deputy Librarian or equivalent senior role in a university setting.
• Member of a professional librarianship or information science body with at least 15 scholarly publications.
• Demonstrated leadership, staff management and organizational skills.
• Ability to serve a full four‑year term before reaching the compulsory retirement age of 60.

Required skills

• Proficiency with library management software or records‑management systems.
• Strong computer literacy.
