Assistant Librarian

About the role

The University of Ghana Library System is seeking a qualified Assistant Librarian to support its strategic objectives. The role involves promoting library resources, delivering information literacy training, and providing research support across academic departments.

Key responsibilities

• Promote library resources to the university community.
• Deliver library instruction and information literacy sessions.
• Engage students and faculty using relevant software tools to enhance teaching and learning.
• Provide reference services and act as a subject librarian.
• Supervise shelving and shelf‑reading activities.
• Contribute to professional research, publishing, and extension activities.

Required profile

• Current University of Ghana staff with at least two years at Senior Library Assistant grade or higher.
• First degree plus a research master’s (MPhil) in Librarianship, Information Studies or related field.
• Minimum two years post‑qualification experience.
• Chartered membership of a library professional association (e.g., Ghana Library Association) with at least two years membership.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
• Experience using library management systems.
