Bit Sharpener

About the role

Newmont is seeking individuals to join its talent community for future opportunities in drill bit maintenance. The role focuses on sharpening drill bits and rebuilding down‑the‑hole (DTH) hammers to extend their service life while ensuring safe and controlled operations at our Ghana mining sites.

Key responsibilities

• Attend pre‑activity instruction meetings and follow guidance from the Drill Supervisor.
• Sharpen drill bits using the bit‑sharpening machine to maximize bit life and reduce consumable costs.
• Inspect, separate, and segregate drill‑bit consumables and hammer components.
• Operate break‑out benches to dismantle hammers for rebuilding.
• Replace defective internal components of DTH hammers and submit requisitions for needed consumables.
• Record serial numbers in the JIGSAW system to track bit life.
• Provide daily reports on bits sharpened, discarded, and hammer parts replaced.
• Monitor grinder machinery for unsafe conditions and report any hazards.

Required profile

• Ability to follow detailed instructions from supervisory staff.
• Strong focus on safety and adherence to operational procedures.
• Willingness to work onsite at mining locations.
