Cable Joint Technician – Electrical Trade

About the role

The Cable Joint Technician will perform electrical cable jointing (hot and cold) for both underground and surface operations at the Obuasi Gold Mine. The role supports refurbishment, maintenance and safe operation of winding and surface plant equipment while complying with Ghanaian regulations and AngloGold Ashanti safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Execute electrical cable joints (hot & cold) on winding equipment and surface plant in accordance with LI2182 and other relevant regulations.
• Carry out daily pre‑start checks of tools and equipment, report any anomalies and ensure safe working conditions.
• Coordinate with contractors and construction teams for mechanical work related to refurbishment projects.
• Provide data to the Maintenance Planner and close work orders in SAP after task completion.
• Adhere to Government of Ghana, AGAG and site environmental, health and safety requirements.

Required profile

• Secondary education level with a certified electrical trade apprenticeship (e.g., City & Guilds).
• Minimum five (5) years post‑apprenticeship experience working on winding equipment in a mining environment.
• Familiarity with Ghana Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety and Technical) Regulation.
• Full literacy and numeracy.

Required skills

• Knowledge of electrical safety standards (LI2182).
