Cable Joint Technician

About the role

The Cable Joint Technician will join AngloGold Ashanti’s Obuasi mine team to perform electrical cable jointing (hot and cold) for both underground and surface operations. The role supports refurbishment and ongoing maintenance of winding and plant equipment while ensuring compliance with Ghanaian regulations and company safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Execute hot and cold electrical cable joints on winding equipment and plant infrastructure.
• Perform daily pre‑start checks of tools and equipment, reporting any anomalies.
• Assess required tools, create checklists, and transport equipment to job sites.
• Interface with contractors and construction teams for mechanical refurbishment tasks.
• Provide data to the Maintenance Planner and close work orders in SAP.
• Stop equipment operation when high‑risk or unsafe conditions are identified.
• Adhere to Government of Ghana, AGAG, and LI2182 safety and environmental requirements.
• Participate in required training and development activities.

Required profile

• Secondary education level.
• Certificate of successful completion of an electrical trade apprenticeship (e.g., City & Guilds).
• Minimum five (5) years post‑apprenticeship experience working on winding equipment.
• Familiarity with Ghana Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety and Technical) Regulations.
• Fully literate and numerate with proven competence in the electrical trade.
• Willingness to work on‑site in Obuasi.

Required skills

• Electrical cable jointing – hot and cold.

• Knowledge of Ghana Minerals and Mining safety regulations.
