Clinical Specialist – HIV Program

About the role

The Clinical Specialist will support the delivery of integrated HIV clinical care and laboratory services across the EpiC Ghana project sites. Working closely with the Ghana Ministry of Health, National AIDS/STI Control Programme and regional health directorates, the role ensures high‑quality clinical and lab functions to advance HIV epidemic control.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and monitor HIV clinical care and laboratory services, including treatment continuity, viral load, PrEP, PMTCT and early infant diagnosis.
• Provide technical and quality‑assurance support to health facilities, ART centres and implementing partners, ensuring consistent availability of ARVs, test kits and other commodities.
• Lead quality‑improvement initiatives, strengthen clinical‑laboratory coordination, and oversee specimen collection, transport and result reporting.
• Develop and facilitate training for clinical and laboratory staff and contribute to technical reporting and performance monitoring.

Required profile

• Medical Doctor with specialization in family medicine, infectious diseases, internal medicine or related field.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in HIV‑care program management, including at least 5 years supervising implementation and providing technical mentorship.
• Experience with USAID/PEPFAR‑funded programs and familiarity with Ghana’s public health sector.

Required skills

• Proficiency with electronic medical record systems (e.g., E‑Sante, PLR).
• Knowledge of viral load, PCR, TB and other HIV‑related laboratory testing and interpretation.
• Advanced use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
