Cloud & Platform Engineer

About the role

As a Cloud & Platform Engineer you will design, build and operate the cloud foundations that Onyx customers rely on for production workloads. The role is hands‑on, covering infrastructure‑as‑code, container orchestration, CI/CD, automation and production support across AWS or Azure environments.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain AWS or Azure infrastructure using Terraform and repeatable IaC practices.
• Deploy and operate containerised workloads with Docker and Kubernetes, ensuring platform reliability.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines, cloud networking, IAM, secrets handling, monitoring and operational automation.
• Support on‑premises‑to‑cloud and cloud‑to‑cloud migrations, application modernisation and platform remediation.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure, networking, deployment, Kubernetes and cloud‑service failures to identify root causes.
• Produce clear implementation notes, diagrams, runbooks and hand‑over documentation for customers and internal teams.

Required profile

• At least two years of practical production experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, infrastructure or platform engineering.
• Strong Linux and networking fundamentals with hands‑on experience in AWS or Azure, Git, Terraform, Docker, CI/CD and Kubernetes.
• Ability to automate tasks using Bash, Python or a comparable scripting language.
• Working knowledge of IAM, cloud security, monitoring, logging, backup, resilience and cost‑aware cloud design.
• A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT or related field is welcome but not required when equivalent experience is demonstrated.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect Associate, Azure Administrator, Terraform Associate, CKA, CKAD) are preferred but not mandatory.
