Cyanide Champion

About the role

The Cyanide Champion will lead the implementation and compliance of cyanide management practices at the Obuasi Gold Mine. Reporting to the Senior Manager – Processing, this role ensures that all cyanide‑related activities meet International Cyanide Management Institute (ICMI) standards and Ghanaian regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Promote health, safety and environmental actions, including proper housekeeping and provision of appropriate PPE for cyanide handling.
• Deliver cyanide awareness training to mine staff, contractors and community members in line with ICMI requirements.
• Maintain cyanide emergency cabins, manage stock levels, and coordinate procurement and receipt of cyanide supplies.
• Investigate environmental incidents, prepare reports with recommendations, and support corrective actions.
• Supervise the certification process for ICMI compliance and act as the primary liaison with auditors.
• Develop, review and update cyanide‑related SOPs, ensure instrument calibration, and oversee documentation.

Required profile

• Experience in cyanide management, environmental compliance, or related mining operations.
• Strong understanding of ICMI standards and Ghanaian legal instruments (e.g., LI 2182, regulation 219).
• Ability to conduct training sessions and communicate technical information clearly.
• Detail‑oriented with a proactive approach to safety and environmental stewardship.

Required skills

• Knowledge of International Cyanide Management Institute (ICMI) guidelines.
• Familiarity with cyanide handling procedures, stock management, and emergency response.
• Experience preparing compliance reports and SOP documentation.
