Cyanide Champion – Process Safety & Compliance

About the role

The Cyanide Champion will lead the implementation and monitoring of cyanide management practices at the Obuasi Gold Mine, ensuring full compliance with International Cyanide Management Institute (ICMI) standards and Ghanaian regulations. This role reports to the Senior Metallurgist in the Process Department and works closely with training, environmental, and community teams.

Key responsibilities

• Champion cyanide‑related issues and ensure ICMI compliance across the processing plant.
• Deliver cyanide awareness training to employees, contractors, and community members.
• Maintain and replenish cyanide emergency cabins and oversee cyanide procurement.
• Coordinate audits, certification processes, and liaise with external auditors.
• Investigate environmental incidents, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions.
• Develop, update, and enforce cyanide‑related SOPs, safety procedures, and instrument calibration.
• Manage documentation, stock movement, and non‑conformance tracking for cyanide handling.
• Support the Plant Training Supervisor in logistics, tracking, and assessment of training outcomes.

Required profile

• Experienced professional with strong self‑motivation and leadership capability.
• In‑depth knowledge of ICMI standards and Ghana’s legal instruments (LI 2182, Regulation 219).
• Proven ability to conduct training, manage environmental compliance, and lead incident investigations.
• Excellent communication skills for stakeholder and community engagement.
