Deputy Director of Finance

About the role

The University seeks a dynamic, self‑motivated professional to serve as Deputy Director of Finance. In this senior position you will support the Director of Finance in overseeing all accounting, financial analysis, budgeting and audit functions for the institution.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Director of Finance in overall management and administration of the finance office as per the Technical Universities Act, 2016.
• Coordinate preparation of the University’s consolidated financial statements and quarterly management accounts.
• Supervise monthly financial reporting for faculties and internally generated fund units.
• Manage receivables, revenue, payables and reconciliation of internally generated funds.
• Ensure compliance with International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) and government regulations.
• Develop, implement and maintain accounting and administrative policies and procedures.
• Oversee the preparation of the operating budget, multi‑year fiscal planning, annual audit coordination and monthly variance reporting.

Required profile

• Research Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field.
• Chartered Accountant membership (e.g., ACCA, ICA, CPA, CPFA, CIMA).
• Minimum six (6) years senior accounting or managerial experience in a university, industry or public practice.
• Ability to provide supporting papers or publications for external assessment.
• Analytical, critical thinker, result‑oriented, innovative and visionary.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and team‑working skills.
• Proactive commercial flair and ability to work independently.

Required skills

• Proficiency with accounting software applications.
• Financial modeling expertise.
• Knowledge of IPSAS compliance and public‑sector accounting standards.
