E&I Supervisor – Winder (Mining)

About the role

The E&I Supervisor – Winder is responsible for supervising inspection, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of winder and shaft electrical, instrumentation and control systems across surface and underground mining operations. The role aims to maximise reliability, minimise downtime and ensure compliance with engineering standards, statutory regulations and mine safety procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise maintenance of winder and shaft motors, VFDs/VSDs, switchgear and power distribution systems.
• Oversee PLC, SCADA, instrumentation and communication systems, including calibration and testing.
• Maintain shaft signalling and interlocking systems and ensure integrity of protection and emergency power systems.
• Lead troubleshooting of automation and control systems and coordinate electrical inspections.
• Manage E&I personnel and contractors, prepare maintenance reports, risk assessments and work permits.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (minimum 3 years experience) or Diploma/Technician qualification with at least 5 years experience.
• 5–8 years practical experience in winder and shaft electrical, instrumentation and control maintenance, including supervisory experience.
• MINCOM certification, mine safety supervisory certification, lifting and hoisting competency, and permit‑to‑work system training.

Required skills

• Proficiency with winder and shaft electrical systems and VFD/VSD technology.
• Experience in switchgear, protection systems and emergency power management.
• Strong knowledge of PLC programming and SCADA/HMI environments.
• Instrumentation calibration, shaft signalling and interlocking expertise.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex control‑system issues.
