Electrical Winder Engineer – Underground Mining

About the role

The Winder Engineer – Electrical will lead the maintenance, refurbishment and safe operation of winding equipment at the Obuasi underground mine, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, HSE regulations and project schedules.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and control the quality of winding equipment maintenance to maximise plant availability.
• Apply safety standards, conduct inspections, audits and JHAs to maintain a zero‑incident environment.
• Ensure compliance with Ghanaian government approvals and the site Environmental Management Plan.
• Provide electrical engineering input into design, constructability reviews and procurement strategies.
• Review, approve and sign‑off detailed design, testing, commissioning and hand‑over documentation.
• Manage interfaces with EPCM contractors and oversee maintenance planning for winding assets.
• Lead the underground maintenance team, develop training plans and monitor performance against operational readiness targets.
• Identify sub‑standard work practices, conduct root‑cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Support senior management with reporting on schedule, cost and quality of winding projects.
• Drive continuous improvement of maintenance processes and asset management programmes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Engineering Manager’s Certificate of Competence from the Mineral Commission of Ghana or equivalent certification.
• Minimum 10 years experience in underground mining winder operations or maintenance.
• Proven experience managing maintenance and repair contracts (MARC) and leading projects.
• Strong knowledge of SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) module.
• Demonstrated ability to work safely in high‑risk underground environments.
