Fuel Champion

About the role

The Fuel Champion will oversee all fuel (diesel) usage within the Mining Department, ensuring efficient consumption and accurate reporting. This role works closely with planners, maintenance teams, and vendors to optimise fuel management across mobile and fixed assets.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and calibrate the Liquid Automation System (LAS) fuel management system.
• Compare LAS reports with planner data, investigate discrepancies and correct abnormalities.
• Coordinate cylinder cut‑out and injector solenoid testing with planners and maintenance to identify faulty components.
• Perform monthly reconciliation of fuel supplied by vendors against fuel used by the mining department.
• Generate weekly and monthly fuel efficiency reports (burn rate) for key stakeholders.
• Support implementation of policies aimed at reducing fuel consumption.
• Train fuel bowser operators, pump attendants and other end‑users on the LAS system.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with hydrocarbons.
• Inspection Engineer and/or Drill and Blast certificate preferred.
• Valid driver’s licence and ability to drive a light vehicle.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills in English.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience using SAP software.
• Knowledge of LAS fuel management system (advantage).
• Data analysis and report writing capabilities.
