General Secretary

About the role

The Ghana National Association of Teachers seeks a dynamic General Secretary to provide strategic leadership and oversee the association’s operations, policies, and programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Initiate and advise the Council on policy formulation for the Association.
• Manage day‑to‑day administration and provide technical and managerial leadership.
• Coordinate sub‑committee activities and represent the Association on national and international labour bodies.
• Oversee efficient management of human, material, and financial resources.
• Lead development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies, strategic plans and programmes.
• Mobilise funding from development partners and prepare periodic reports for the Council.
• Build and manage a cross‑cultural work team and collaborate with government, public and private sector partners.
• Serve as chief negotiator with the Government, Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution.
• Professional teacher and member in good standing of the Ghana National Association of Teachers.
• Minimum 15 years relevant experience, including at least 5 years in senior management within the Ghana Education Service.
• Commitment to serve in the position for at least five years.
