Mechanical Supervisor – Winders

About the role

The Mechanical Supervisor – Winders will lead the refurbishment and later maintenance of winding equipment at the Obuasi underground gold mine. The role focuses on ensuring plant availability, safety, and cost‑effectiveness while supporting the mine’s transition to a fully mechanised operation.

Key responsibilities

• Apply total quality management principles to achieve zero‑defect outcomes and maintain safety standards.
• Conduct periodic audits and reviews of winding equipment during refurbishment and maintenance phases.
• Develop and execute condition‑monitoring routes, including visual checks, vibration, infrared, ultrasonic, motor current, flux, and simple NDT data collection.
• Analyse and trend predictive‑maintenance data, report plant condition, and generate work requests in SAP.
• Monitor equipment performance on the asset‑health system, coordinate contractor activities, and escalate delays.
• Participate in maintenance review programmes, root‑cause failure analysis, and cost‑reduction initiatives.

Required profile

• Experienced mechanical professional with a background in underground mining equipment.
• Self‑motivated, able to work independently and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong understanding of total quality management and safety compliance.

Required skills

• Condition monitoring techniques (vibration, infrared, ultrasonic, motor current, flux).
• Basic non‑destructive testing (NDT) data collection.
• Proficiency with SAP for work request creation and scheduling.
• Predictive maintenance data analysis and trend reporting.
• Knowledge of rotating equipment diagnostics and asset‑health systems.
