Mechanical Technician – Shaft Maintenance

About the role

The Mechanical Technician – Shaft Maintenance will support the fully mechanised underground operation at the Obuasi Gold Mine. The role focuses on executing statutory shaft inspections, transporting and slinging materials, and ensuring all shaft‑related activities comply with safety and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform statutory inspections of shafts and related infrastructure in line with LI2182 requirements.
• Transport and sling materials safely using slings, chain blocks, and wire ropes.
• Prepare and complete daily pre‑start and shift handover check sheets.
• Report anomalies, generate work requests in SAP and assist the Shaft Supervisor with condition‑monitoring data.
• Execute routine equipment checks, log performance in the asset health system, and escalate potential failures.
• Identify continuous‑improvement actions and cost‑reduction opportunities.

Required profile

• Experienced in mechanical maintenance within a mining or heavy‑industry environment.
• Self‑motivated, safety‑focused and able to work under strict compliance guidelines.
• Capable of organising tools and equipment for daily tasks and maintaining accurate records.

Required skills

• Proficiency with SAP for maintenance planning and work‑order creation.
• Knowledge of LI2182 statutory inspection standards.
• Experience with condition monitoring and asset health systems.
• Competence in using slings, chain blocks, and wire ropes for material handling.
