Mortuary Technician

About the role

The Mortuary Technician will work in the newly opening Bank Hospital mortuary in Accra, providing essential support for post‑mortem examinations, body preparation, and compassionate liaison with families of the deceased.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, store, and release bodies while maintaining strict cleanliness, safety and temperature standards.
• Prepare bodies for post‑mortem examinations and assist pathologists during autopsies.
• Replace organs and restore bodies after autopsy, and handle organ donation requests.
• Label and preserve specimens for histology, photography, teaching or research.
• Provide sympathetic support and escort to relatives, adhering to customer service protocols.
• Maintain mortuary equipment, consumables and reagent stock, ensuring proper documentation.
• Liaise with funeral parlour representatives, portering staff and medical departments.
• Assist with high‑risk post‑mortems, ensuring rigorous health‑and‑safety procedures.
• Participate in training, supervision of junior staff and incident investigations.

Required profile

• Diploma in Anatomical Pathology or an equivalent qualification.
• Membership of a relevant professional body.
• Experience in mortuary or post‑mortem settings is preferred.
• Ability to work sensitively with bereaved families and multidisciplinary teams.
