Officer – Rehabilitation

About the role

The Officer – Rehabilitation will coordinate equipment contractors and lead the implementation of mine closure and progressive rehabilitation programmes for AngloGold Ashanti’s operations in Ghana. The role ensures compliance with Ghanaian environmental regulations and drives sustainable land restoration.

Key responsibilities

• Implement programmes to meet regulatory compliance and progressive rehabilitation targets.
• Execute the mine rehabilitation plan, introducing agro‑forestry and other sustainable practices.
• Develop and monitor mine closure plans, assessing and managing associated risks.
• Set rehabilitation objectives, establish management programmes, and track progress through internal audits.
• Update Standard Operating Procedures for AGA Management Standard on rehabilitation.
• Conduct periodic reviews of the rehabilitation programme for continuous improvement.
• Perform heavy‑metal analysis in soil and plant tissues at reclaimed sites.
• Maintain and care for rehabilitated sites post‑implementation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years of rehabilitation experience in mining, extractive, or construction industries.
• Health, Safety and Environment Officer Certificate of Competency from the Minerals Commission.
• Strong knowledge of Ghanaian environmental regulations, mining & mineral laws, and environmental management systems.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
