Privacy Specialist – Data Protection Lead

About the role

The Privacy Specialist will lead Telecel Ghana’s privacy program, ensuring compliance with GDPR, CCPA/CPRA and Ghanaian data protection laws. This senior position works closely with legal, IT, product and regulatory teams to embed privacy across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain privacy policies, procedures, guidelines and controls.
• Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) for new products and services.
• Monitor compliance with GDPR, CCPA/CPRA and Ghanaian privacy regulations and keep policies up‑to‑date.
• Serve as the primary contact for regulators, internal stakeholders and customers on privacy matters.
• Manage data subject access requests and other individual rights requests.
• Lead investigation, notification, mitigation and reporting of data breaches, and maintain the Data Breach Incident Response Plan.
• Maintain records of data processing activities and conduct regular privacy risk assessments.
• Design and deliver privacy training programs and internal communications to raise awareness.
• Collaborate with IT, Security, Legal, Product, Marketing and HR to embed privacy into systems and processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business, IT or related field; Master’s preferred.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in privacy, compliance or legal roles, preferably in telecommunications or a highly regulated industry.
• Professional certification such as CIPM, CIPP/E or CIPP/US is highly preferred.
• Deep knowledge of global and regional data privacy laws including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA and Ghanaian regulations.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills with high integrity and professionalism.
