Programme Management Officer – Climate Adaptation

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Programme Management Officer to support its Climate Change Adaptation Unit in Accra, Ghana. The incumbent will work under the Head of the unit to drive project implementation, provide technical guidance, and ensure compliance with UNEP policies.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance and identify appropriate interventions to achieve project objectives.
• Review and analyse country‑specific development plans, socioeconomic data and related reports.
• Assemble and edit data required for planning, reporting and negotiation of project activities.
• Support delivery of adaptation planning efforts and ensure adherence to UNEP financial and administrative rules.
• Assist in budgeting, resource programming, and expenditure forecasting, recommending remedial actions when needed.
• Undertake missions to project sites, offering technical coaching to partners on implementation and reporting.

Required profile

• Proven experience in project management within climate change or environmental programmes.
• Strong analytical skills for reviewing development plans and socioeconomic data.
• Familiarity with UNEP rules, financial procedures and reporting requirements.
• Ability to work independently and travel to project sites as required.
• Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement and capacity‑building.
