Rehabilitation Officer

About the role

The Rehabilitation Officer will coordinate equipment contractors and lead the implementation of mine closure and progressive rehabilitation programmes for AngloGold Ashanti’s operations in the Ashanti Region. This role ensures compliance with Ghanaian environmental regulations and supports sustainable land restoration.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and monitor mine rehabilitation plans, including progressive rehabilitation and agro‑forestry integration.
• Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures for the AGA Management Standard on rehabilitation.
• Conduct internal audits and short‑term planning to track conformance with environmental strategies.
• Identify and assess risks associated with closure, set objectives, and manage programmes to achieve targets.
• Perform heavy‑metal analysis in soil and plant tissues at reclaimed sites.
• Maintain and care for rehabilitated sites, ensuring long‑term stability.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years of rehabilitation experience in mining, extractive, or construction sectors.
• Certificate of Competency from the Minerals Commission.
• Strong knowledge of Ghanaian environmental regulations, mining & mineral laws, and environmental management systems.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
