Senior Winder Engine Driver

About the role

The Senior Winder Engine Driver will lead the coordination of work schedules, training, and performance monitoring for winder drivers at the Obuasi underground mine. The role ensures compliance with LI2182 regulations, maximises plant availability, and maintains a safe, sustainable and cost‑effective operation.

Key responsibilities

• Train personnel to obtain and maintain a winding engine driver’s certificate of competency and manage the skills matrix, including medical fitness.
• Coordinate and monitor winder drivers’ work, record operations, report deficiencies and ensure compliance with statutory regulations (Reg 452‑458).
• Lead safety initiatives, conduct inspections, audits and investigations, and develop corrective action plans.
• Oversee shaft maintenance, statutory inspections, and environmental compliance, aiming for zero reportable incidents.
• Develop succession plans, define roles and accountabilities, and communicate policies to achieve full understanding and compliance.

Required profile

• Winder Trainer Certification and winding engine driver’s certificate of competency issued by the Chief Inspector of Mines (LI2182).
• Tertiary qualification in Electrical, Mechanical or Maintenance Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in underground mining as a Winder Operations Specialist/Trainer.
• Sectional Engineer’s Certificate of Competency from the Mineral Commission of Ghana.

Required skills

• Proficiency with SAP Skills module.
• In‑depth knowledge of LI2182 mining regulations and statutory inspection procedures.
• Ability to train and assess winder drivers to achieve compliant certification.
• Expertise in winding engine operation and shaft maintenance planning.
